Buying in Bulk

I just returned from a shopping trip to Costco. One of the ways our family saves time, money and resources is by buying in bulk. We’ve all heard the benefits of buying products in larger sizes and refillable containers to reduce packaging and waste. And, while I appreciate the value of doing so, I’ve been continually disappointed that Costco hasn’t taken it to the next level by stocking more environmentally friendly products.

I’m pleased to say that I was thrilled to see a few environmentally friendly products on the shelves this time around. They’ve got eco-friendly jugs of hand soap to refill sink-top pumps. The jugs are teardrop shaped and even offer suggestions on how to reuse before recycling. They also have environmentally dish soap and laundry soap. While these few products still pale in comparison to the thousands of other products they carry, I’m hopeful that it’s a sign of more things to come, especially in the paper goods and office supply aisles!
